We all need a go-to coffee spot, and with so many to choose from, it's hard hard to know where to turn. Here are some ideas.
Hemelhuijs
The seasonal menu is bursting with options, one more delicious than the next. There's freshly squeezed juice, such as green apple, celery, and ginger; or the carrot, pear and garden beets.
Also, check out the all-day breakfast menu, which includes poached farm eggs with roasted artichokes and hollandaise; toasted mosbolletjie (a traditional Afrikaans sweet-bun) loaf with cultured cream and homemade jam; and grilled farm-style sausage in old-fashioned tomato smoor with a soft poached egg.
Nourish’d
Tucked away in an old garage on the corner of Hof and Kloof Streets in Gardens, behind lush granadilla creepers and a bounty of hanging plants, this laidback café is the kind of place where everyone is welcome – from surfers to suits and furry friends, too. The menu offers a selection of fresh cold-pressed juices, smoothie boards served in Instagrammable coconut dishes, breakfast bowls and tasty toasts, all packed with fresh, locally grown ingredients.
Grumpy & Runt
This deli on Dunkley Square has a delicious plant-based bent. Think New York-style sourdough sandwiches and bagels, knock-out doughnuts and good coffee. After fuelling up, fill a basket with anything and everything from pink oyster mushrooms and seaweed snacks to kombucha and falafel mix. Perfect for an on-the-go brekkie.
